An orphaned baby hippo is adopted by a 130 year-old giant tortise.

Exhausted, confused and extremely frightened, Owen immediately ran to the safety of a giant tortoise when we released him in Haller Park. Mzee, our 130 year old tortoise, just happened to be nearby and he was very surprised by Owen's odd behavior cowering behind him as a baby hippo does to its mother. Mzee quickly came to terms with his new friend and even returned signs of affection.

C'mon, seriously... this just SO ADORABLE.

Uh! How about we have a posting title contest for this?

I'm just don't know what to say. I think I might believe this. ;-)

Information overload

I've used this page forever to look up library books, but never really paid much attention to the databases. The library has licensed access to a bunch of info sources that you can get into with your San Diego Public Library card number. The links don't all work, but if historical pictures, academic journal articles and government documents are your bag, and you have a library card, take a peek. I especially like the Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center. And you can look at newspaper archives (including the New York Times back to the 1850s) without having to pay pesky fees!
