Silly washed-up metal stars...

Saw Dios Malos last night at the Casbah. Boy, am I glad Ronnie James Dio made them change their name from "Dios," otherwise I may have spent the whole night wondering why they weren't playing "Holy Diver."

San Diego inauguration day demonstration

It was at night so the pictures are a bit whacked, but you get the idea.

I'm telling you, it's all about dumbing down complicated subjects into two words.

Christians don't like Jerry Springer's singing

Christians angered by the Jerry Springer musical broadcast
"The BBC executive behind the decision to screen Jerry Springer - The Opera last night fled his home with his young family after receiving death threats."

Also:
Protests as BBC screens Springer
"Hundreds of Christian protesters rallied outside BBC buildings before and during the broadcast on BBC Two."

But more importantly, there's a Jerry Springer Opera???

knock

Umm, so, seriously - what exactly is the deal in this country with "counting" things? I thought this whole issue was already over with, and now... I am completely confused.

I hope she wins.
A group delivered a petition Tuesday that urges the City Council to nullify the election results in San Diego's mayoral race and declare Councilwoman Donna Frye the winner.

Voices for Open and Truthful Election Results and Reform turned in about 200 signatures from voters who said the 5,547 disputed write-in ballots for Frye cast without a "bubble" filled in should be counted. [SD Union Tribune]
I must say I'm not a big fan of opinion surveys, but these KGTV results appear to be CLEARLY in her favor...

www.oyez.org

I stumbled across this site via D-Lib Magazine. Seems to be a great resource for anyone interested in all those US Supreme Court cases that, ya know, people are always referring to in the news and stuff.

Many of the cases include audio excerpts, written opinions by the Justices themselves, full transcripts and extensive photo archives of participants, etc. Read summaries on the twenty most popluar cases such as Plessy v Ferguson or Roe v Wade. You can also browse some of the more interesting categories such as Free Exercise of Religion and the Death Penalty

Or, if it's been a really long day and you need something more lighthearted, there's always the Fish Specimen Image Collection

The left is coming to getcha!!

Wow, I never realized just how victimized the Republicans and Christians in this country really are by those big, bad Democrats. Just take a look at some of today's headlines on NewsMax.com!

"Kerry Trashes Bush in Baghdad"
"Dems Want to Make Gonzales 'Scapegoat'"
"Gonzales Resists Democrat Attacks"
"More Hollywood Snubs of Gibson's 'Passion'"
"Media Pound 'Shameful' Democrat Election Thieves"
"Oliver Stone Blames His Flop on Christians"

And just in case America's fear level starts going down, we now need to watch out for terrorist wristwatches and the coming Baby Boomer tidal wave.

Democrats force debate on election mishaps

And if you think the Democrats are being sore losers, ask yourself these questions, from Barbara Boxer's statement on her objection:

Why did voters in Ohio wait hours in the rain to vote? Why were voters at Kenyan College, for example, made to wait in line until nearly 4 a.m. to vote because there were only two machines for 1300 voters?

Why did poor and predominantly African-American communities have disproportionately long waits?

Why in Franklin County did election officials only use 2,798 machines when they said they needed 5,000? Why did they hold back 68 machines in warehouses? Why were 42 of those machines in predominantly African-American districts?

Why did, in Columbus area alone, an estimated 5,000 to 10,000 voters leave polling places, out of frustration, without having voted? How many more never bothered to vote after they heard about this?

Why is it when 638 people voted at a precinct in Franklin County, a voting machine awarded 4,258 extra votes to George Bush. Thankfully, they fixed it – but how many other votes did the computers get wrong?

Why did Franklin County officials reduce the number of electronic voting machines in downtown precincts, while adding them in the suburbs? This also led to long lines.

In Cleveland, why were there thousands of provisional ballots disqualified after poll workers gave faulty instructions to voters?

Spent New Years Day at the Mummers Parade in Philadelphia. Floats and costumes ranged from the semi-amusing to the completely-random, and still I came away from all this having no clue what a 'Mummer' even is. If anybody has more information, please fill me in on the details sometime...
