In parts of Fairbanks, Alaska, houses and buildings lean at odd angles... an architectural landscape that is becoming more familiar as the world's ice-rich permafrost gives way to thaw.

In the meantime, Iraq's library struggles to rise from the ashes.

Hmmm... could this be Ipecac Radio, the second attempt?

I'm dreaming of a blue (post-) Christmas

Don't want to indirectly give cash to the Republican party (or the Democrats, if that's your thing)? Choose the Blue and Buy Blue provide information on corporate political donations and rate companies either "red" or blue." There are some discrepancies between the two lists and I can't vouch for their accuracy, but it's something worth thinking about.

Surprisingly, Starbucks is blue. Not surprisingly, Christian Pirate Radio is red.

Always wondered why the internet had such a obvious shortage of Death/Chaos/War ads...

Some Creepy Christmas additions...

Porter Sculpture Park, South Dakota

I finally got around to posting these photos taken back in Summer 2002. Apparently the Sculpture Garden has gained an official website since then.

Suicidal Christmas tree

Being half-assedly tied to top of car by guy at Christmas tree lot + a romp on Interstate 8 = slightly mangled, tire track-decorated tree. Luckily, this was the only casualty.

Not as creepy as Zack's post, but...

In other news... The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers is suing against Californias recently proposed CO2 emissions standards. According to their website: "Californians would see no health benefits from this regulation... Unlike smog, carbon dioxide poses no health hazard. Indeed, plant life needs carbon dioxide to live."

In other news at NASA Headquarters... South American Glaciers Melting Faster, Changing Sea Level.

Iraq war going well inside the television

From CNN Crossfire, Dec. 2:

JAMES CARVILLE: Why are we already there for so long and we need more and more troops if it's going so well?

JERRY FALWELL: Well, it's going -- it's going -- I think it is going well. You know, CNN does not always get it right, but it goes pretty well if you watch it on Fox.

Speaking of Falwell, here's some study material for those on the left:

The Moral Majority Coalition

From the "Living in Jesusland" article on the site:

"It may prove quite entertaining to watch Democrats polish off their Bibles in an attempt to spiritualize their message and work to bring values voters back to the fold. The problem for Democrats will be to actually label their values; simply buffing up their same old policies without truly defining their values will be a futile exercise.

This will be particularly difficult considering the growing radical wing of the party comes from a perspective that morality is in the eye of the beholder."

Well crap, I didn't realize that letting people choose their own moral values was such a radical concept. Is it safe to say that "radical" is in the eye of the beholder as well?

Fun with Russian news

So I was doing a Google search for "talking bush doll" and somehow came upon Pravda.ru. Try to find any of these headlines in the American press:

"U.S. Retreats from Theory of Democratic Transformation in the Middle East"
"Western press obsessed with Putin connection in Ukraine"
"People drop sink down on car to shut the alarm up"
"Rabid rottweiler attacks girl biting her head"

Fox to provide news to Clear Channel stations

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Clear Channel Communications (CCU), the largest U.S. radio station chain, has picked Fox News Radio as the primary source of national news for most of its news and talk stations, officials announced Monday.

The five-year agreement initially covers more than 100 radio stations and marks the first major affiliate group deal for Fox News Radio.
